Fibroids affect approximately three out of four American women. Many women dismiss symptoms of fibroids (also known as myomas) including, heavy monthly periods, pain or pressure between the hip bones or back of the legs, a frequent need to urinate, constipation and bloating and an enlarged abdomen. Fibroid related symptoms cause women to lose an estimated 2-4 million days of productivity a year. African-American women, and those of any race with a family history, are more likely to develop fibroids than other women. It’s estimated that between 50% and 80% of African-American women will develop fibroids. Fibroids are the #1 reason for hysterectomy in this country— up to 75% of hysterectomies done are for this non-cancerous condition that can be treated without surgery!

Dr. John Lipman Inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Radiology

Reston, VA — John C. Lipman, MD, FACR, of Kennesaw, GA, has been inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Radiology (ACR). The induction took place at a formal convocation ceremony during the recent 87th ACR Annual Meeting and Chapter Leadership conference May 14-18, 2011, in Washington, DC.

Lipman is currently the Medical Director and Chief of Interventional Radiology at Emory Adventist Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He received his Masters and Medical degrees from Georgetown University School of Medicine, followed by Radiology residency training at Brigham & Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Lipman is a pioneer in the development of Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE), a non-surgical procedure that replaces the need for hysterectomy in women suffering with uterine fibroids.

One of the highest honors the ACR can bestow on a radiologist, radiation oncologist or medical physicist is recognition as a fellow of the American College of Radiology. ACR Fellows demonstrate a history of service to the College, organized radiology, teaching, or research. Less than 10 percent of Radiologists achieve this distinction.

The ACR is a national non-profit association serving more than 34,000 radiologists, radiation oncologists, interventional radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of radiology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
To arrange an interview with John C. Lipman, or another ACR member, please contact Dianne Keen at 478-957-9777 or dianne@gotfibroids.com
