Fibroids affect approximately three out of four American women. Many women dismiss symptoms of fibroids (also known as myomas) including, heavy monthly periods, pain or pressure between the hip bones or back of the legs, a frequent need to urinate, constipation and bloating and an enlarged abdomen. Fibroid related symptoms cause women to lose an estimated 2-4 million days of productivity a year. African-American women, and those of any race with a family history, are more likely to develop fibroids than other women. It’s estimated that between 50% and 80% of African-American women will develop fibroids. Fibroids are the #1 reason for hysterectomy in this country— up to 75% of hysterectomies done are for this non-cancerous condition that can be treated without surgery!

Freedom From Fibroids Team All Around Town

The Freedom From Fibroids team has been hitting the streets all around Metro Atlanta, educating women about UFE, Uterine Fibroid Embolization. The non-surgical procedure takes 45 minutes, the patient goes home the same day with a band aid and the recovery period is about a week.

Although UFE has been available since 1995,  many women have never heard of the procedure. UFE and fibroid expert, Dr. John Lipman performed the first procedure in Georgia over 17 years ago and has performed more UFE procedures than any other interventional radiologist in the Southeast.

Women should be informed about all of their options when it comes to the treatment of fibroids. The team visited spots all around town to make sure women have the information they need to make informed decisions about their lives.
